Cisco Catalyst 3750-E Software
Cisco Catalyst 3750-E Series is available with the IP Base or IP Services feature set. The IP Base feature set includes advanced Quality of Service (QoS), a set of security features, rate limiting, access control lists, and basic static routing and Routing Information Protocol (RIP) capabilities. The IP Services feature set provides a more comprehensive set of enterprise-class features, including hardware-based advanced IP unicast and multicast routing: Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) Independent Multicast Protocol (PIM) and IPv6 routings such as OSPFv3 and EIGRPv6.
Customers can transparently upgrade the software feature set on Cisco 3750-E Series Switches through Cisco Software activation. Software activation authorizes and enables the Cisco IOS Software feature sets. Cisco IOS software examines a special file on the switch, called a license file when the switch is powered on. Depending on the type of license, the Cisco IOS software enables the appropriate feature set. License types can be changed or updated to activate a different set of features.
The Cisco Catalyst 3750-E Series Switches are compatible with the Cisco Catalyst 3750 Series Switches, allowing customers to stack them and therefore protect their existing investment in Cisco Catalyst 3750 Series Switches. Cisco TwinGig Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) converter module further protects customers’ investment in Catalyst 3750-E Series switches by allowing migration from Gigabit Ethernet uplinks to 10 Gigabit Ethernet as needs require without having to upgrade the switches.
Cisco StackWise Plus Technology
Cisco StackWise Plus technology is based on the successful technology, which is a premium stacking architecture optimized for Gigabit Ethernet. StackWise technology was designed to respond to additions, removals, and redeployment while maintaining consistent performance. The stack behaves as a single switching unit managed by a master switch chosen from one of the member switches. The main switch automatically creates and updates all switching and optional routing tables. A working stack can accept new members or remove old ones without interrupting service. StackWise creates a single highly resilient unified system of up to nine switches, providing simplified management using a single IP address, a single telnet session, a single command-line interface (CLI), automatic version checking, auto-configuration, and more. StackWise Plus supports all StackWise features and provides backward compatibility with existing Cisco Catalyst 3750 Series switches while improving system performance up to 64 Gbps. StackWise Plus also enables local switching on Cisco Catalyst 3750-E Series Switches. Locally switched packets entering a port on the Cisco Catalyst 3750-E Series switch destined for another port on the same switch do not have to traverse the stack ring, increasing the forwarding capacity of the switch.
Redundant power system
Cisco Catalyst 3750-E Series Switches support the next generation (RPS) 2300. The RPS 2300 increases availability in a converged data, voice, and video network by providing transparent power backup to two of the six connected Cisco Catalyst 3750s. E series switches at the same time. The faulty power supply can be changed while the RPS 2300 turns on the switch.
Cisco Catalyst 3750-E Series increases availability for stackable switches. Each switch can function as both a master controller and a forwarding processor. Each switch in the stack can serve as a master, creating a 1: N availability scheme for network control. In the unlikely event that a single unit fails, all other units continue to send traffic and maintain operation.
The Cisco Catalyst 3750-E Series supports a full set of security features for connectivity and access control, including ACL, authentication, port-level security, and identity-based network services with 802.1x and extensions. This comprehensive feature set not only helps prevent external attacks but also defends the network against man in the middle attacks, a major concern in today’s business environment. The switch also supports the Network Admission Control security framework.
